Singing and Organ Workshop

The second in a series of singing and organ-playing workshops with musician, liturgist and composer Margaret Daly Denton took place over three days this week which has been a joy and an enhancement of our liturgy.    The Church encourages playing and singing in her liturgy.  The Catechism even calls “the musical tradition of the universal Church…a treasure of inestimable value, greater even than that of any other art.” (CCC 1156)  Here at Glencairn our monastic community sings the whole Divine Office or Liturgy of the Hours, composed by Margaret Daly Denton.  We are ever grateful to her for her great contribution to our prayer and praise.  The Liturgy of the Hours when sung has a beautiful way of making God’s word resonate and remain in our hearts.

In addition to organ tuition for our organ playing sisters and practicing old and new chant for the liturgy, we also rehearsed with tenor Frank Ryan for our upcoming appearance at a fundraising concert in aid of our building project, with the VoiceOver Choir at St. Mary’s Church of Ireland, Dungarvan on 5th November, 2017.  All are welcome to come along!
