Glencairn Abbey Building Project News

The Sisters have been delighted to see the commencement of preliminary works on our building project here at St Mary’s Abbey, Glencairn on 2nd June, 2014.

A dedicated team of builders under the direction of Quinn Architects and Eamonn O’Gorman Construction Ltd have been skillfully handling the construction of our new building services including drainage, sewage, water and heating supplies.

Additionally, our new workshop for our greeting card department is currently in mid-renovation and our new laundry has been completed. Both of these functions are housed in newly renovated beautiful nineteenth-century out-buildings originally constructed by the previous family owners of Glencairn Abbey.

Impressive stone arches have been uncovered during works that will be preserved in the renovation to retain the original building design and to allow for maximum light. We know that these surroundings will be an inspiration for our card producing Sisters’ creativity to blossom!

The buildings that house our other main income-generating work in the monastery, the Eucharist Bread Department, were renovated in 2006. Our monastic work environment will therefore be fully updated and operational with the expected completion of our new Card Department workshop by Christmas of this year.

As our building project continues to make progress, we would like to extend here our heartfelt, prayerful thanks to all those who have helped to support the project so far, and we continue to ask for your prayers and support as this good work unfolds to renew our monastic dwellings.

You can make a donation to our building project through our website homepage. Thank you once again.
