An Evening of Sacred Song at Tallow Church, Co. Waterford

A cold winter’s evening last Friday night was quickly transformed for those of us who were gathered at the church of the Immaculate Conception, in Tallow, Co. Waterford for an atmospheric and inspiring Evening of Sacred Song organised by Liz O’Hara.

Liz is one of our longtime employees here at Glencairn who has a wonderful talent herself for singing. Stage lighting and sound amplification by MPC Productions enhanced the charm of our venue, completing the scene for the evening’s performances.

Over three hundred people were present to enjoy the performances of professional Irish artists Noirín Ní Ríain and Liam Lawton together with many other excellent singers who perform both locally and nationally. The children of Scoil Mhuire, the Tallow parish choir, Dublin-based singer Jennifer Snow, individual local singers and the beautiful compositions of Mairéad Cullinane and the instrumental and singing performances of her four gifted daughters, all gave us a night to remember. Our own contribution to the evening was a rendition of Shaun Davey’s The Deer’s Cry, performed by soloist Sr Gertrude Kelly with a schola of sisters from the communitiy.

This event was a wonderful exhibition of the talent and faith-filled spirit and values of the people of this locality who turned out in great numbers to support Glencairn Abbey and our community project to renovate the abbey and update the monastery building’s services.

We were also delighted to be joined by some of our guests who travelled great distances to be with us for the evening, which added to our joy.
