Liturgy

The community assembles in the abbey church to sing the Divine Office seven times daily in union with the whole Body of Christ. Together we celebrate daily eucharist, chant the psalms, listen to the word of God, and intercede for the needs of the world.

The Divine Office is the backbone of our monastic day, helping us to 'pray unceasingly'. Our constant prayer, in turn, flows into communal prayer in this daily monastic rhythm.

Saint Benedict called the Divine Office the Opus Dei, the Work of God, and he instructs us in his Rule: "Let nothing be preferred to the Work of God".

We strive to offer our whole selves to God in our worship, desiring to be present and attentive, and to offer to God a liturgy that is both prayerful and beautiful.

Saint Benedict also legislated in his Rule for a night office. We rise and assemble in the church for the office of Vigils at 4:10am, followed by prayer and meditation.
