Vigils: Ordinary Time
01 February 2010
IN YOU, LORD, IS THE SOURCE OF LIFE. This is an antiphon the community sings at the Office of Vigils in the last hours of darkness before a new day begins. This is a special time in the monastic horarium or schedule that the sisters grow to love over the years as their relationship with God, their lectio divina and their personal prayer gradually deepen. After the Christmas fesitivities, we are back in Ordinary Time in the Liturgy of the Church and these antiphons greet us with the familiarity of old friends. The repetition of the liturgy, rich with scriptural verses, does not alienate us or bore us. Rather the simplicity of a short verse from a psalm, such as this, can lead to deep prayer and food for meditation throughout the day. Antiphons act as gateways leading us to other fragments or phrases from scripture that interweave with each other. O God, O Wisdom, you hold all things together in a strong yet gentle manner…All life, all happiness comes from you…Be like your heavenly Father who causes the rain to fall on the just and the unjust alike...
In you, Lord, is the source of life and in your light we see light Psalm 34(35)
On Easter Sunday this year, we had added cause for rejoicing and ringing out our Easter
