The Feast of the Epiphany
06 January 2010
THE SEASON OF CHRISTMAS at Glencairn is resonant with mystery; the fragile limbs of our new-born saviour reach out with tenderness to a fallen world. The light of faith by which the wise kings walk is also their path of doubt and suffering, as T.S. Eliot reminds us in his poem The Coming of the Magi: “a cold coming they had of it…with voices ringing in their ears saying that this was all folly.” No matter what our weakness, our fear or our temptation, God always gives us the light we need to find our way to Him, this we can depend on. Such a trustful surrender in love is perhaps our greatest gift to the newborn Lord of All…
Happy indeed are they
whose delight is the law of the Lord
and who ponder his law day…
