Solemn Profession of Sr Mairead, Saturday 5 June, 2010 at Glencairn
05 June 2010
Happy indeed are they
whose delight is the law of the Lord
and who ponder his law day and night…
they are like a tree that is planted
beside the flowing waters
whose leaves shall never fade
and all that they do shall prosper… Psalm 1
We had the joy at Glencairn on Saturday 5 June of welcoming Sr Mairead McDonagh as a fully professed member of our community at St Mary’s Abbey. In the presence of the community here in the Abbey church, together with her two brothers and four sisters, nieces and nephews, extended family and many friends, Sister Mairead intoned the familiar words of the Suscipe: Receive me O Lord as you promised and I shall live, and do not disappoint me in my hope. The Rite of Profession took place after the Liturgy of the Word at the Mass with Dom Richard Purcell, Abbot of Mount Saint Joseph Cistercian Abbey, Roscrea presiding. After her consecration, the Abbess of Glencairn, Mother Marie Fahy clothed Sr Mairead in her black veil and monastic cowl and she was formally embraced by the solemnly professed community. Much greeting and sharing followed at the festive lunch afterwards in the community refectory together with all our guests whose presence helped make the celebration so special. See more photos of the occasion in our Events gallery together with a video clip of the ceremony. You might like to read Sister Mairead’s vocation story also on our website in our Vocations pages (vocations stories.) We wish her lifelong happiness in the Lord and every blessing always on her chosen path of monastic life.
