Sister Francis celebrates her 90th birthday

On Shrove Tuesday just before Lent this year, the community gathered to celebrate Sister Francis Fitzgerald’s very special ninetieth birthday.

Sister Francis, still regularly attending the Divine Office and still faithfully working at the eucharist bread department here at the Abbey, entered Glencairn in 1943, and was one of the seven irish foundresses from Glencairn in 1949 to found Mount St Mary’s Abbey, in Wrentham, Massachussetts in the United States.

It is one of God’s marvels to us indeed that Sister Francis has been blessed with so many years of faithfulness to the monastic life here at Glencairn.

Our heartfelt congratulations and gratitude to you Sister Francis!
