Glencairn Associates make promises

On 14 February 2010, the six founding members of the Glencairn Associates, formed in 2003, made promises to follow the Rule of St Benedict in their own daily life circumstances.  The ceremony took place after Lauds with the community present as each made their promise and received a medal of St Benedict as a symbol of their commitment.

“The invitation which Christ extends to each one of you today is to enter into this movement of conversion and strive to model your life on his life: to depend totally on the Father’s providence, seek first his kingdom and everything else will be given as well; to live in a gentle non-violent way, thrusting the roots of your being down into the stream of God’s abundant love; weeping for your sins and for the sins of the Church, having a merciful, compassionate relationship with your neighbour and hungering for God’s light and truth in all circumstances.  As St Benedict says: “let them prefer nothing whatever to Christ.”
