Welcome to St. Mary's Abbey, Glencairn

   St. Mary's Abbey, Glencairn is situated on the banks of
the river Blackwater, about three miles west of Lismore, in Co.
Waterford.

We are a community of monastic women belonging to the Cistercian Order.

We follow the ancient Rule of St. Benedict, which goes back to the
sixth century.

At the heart of monastic life is the search for God.

We seek God and follow Christ in a life of prayer and work,
obedience and simplicity, solitude and silence, in a community of
faith and love. There are three key elements in our day: liturgy,
lectio divina, and work.

We are the only community of Cistercian women in Ireland.
